Ontario-Yates Hospice, a program of Finger Lakes Visiting Nurse Service welcomes volunteers of all ages and abilities. Not only do our dedicated volunteers complete the circle-of-care we provide to our hospice patients, but they provide much-needed office support, allowing clinicians the time to focus on the agency mission of providing clinically excellent, compassionate home health care to individuals and families in the communities we serve. Over 50 volunteers help with a wide range of activities, including:

  • Acting as a ‘companion’ and making home visits to hospice patients and family members
  • Helping with special event planning
  • Fundraising
  • Mailing informational brochures to prospective patients or family members who inquire about our services
  • Data entry and other clerical duties

Our volunteers enjoy many benefits:

  • A feeling of satisfaction by helping your neighbors and community and making a significant difference in the lives of Finger Lakes residents
  • Development of new skills as you work alongside trained staff
  • Making lifelong friends and meeting all sorts of new people
  • Special volunteer recognition events year-round
  • Top notch training, orientation, and guidance so to help you excel as a volunteer
